This page was actually the first panel of the next one.

Unfortunately I accidentally scanned the rest of the panels in at a different DPI and everything was teeny tiny.

Fortunately, though, it meant I got to play with shading and color on the one panel page that this became.

The story progresses next Sunday!

Well then!  It's time for me to start updating regularly.  My mouse no longer works, so it took quite the effort to color this one correctly.  I'll try not to use that as an excuse for anything other than the shading that I was planning on adding in.  Don't worry though. All the comics are saved in a way that I can go back and shade retro-actively.  Again, sorry about the delay.  Enjoy your week!

Almost a months hiatus!

Dear readers,
                 
                  Please do not despair!  Mordachai and pals will be joining back up with us in a few short days.  Unfortunately a series of events in my personal life have taken precedence over bringing you sweet sweet comics.  The final one being that my mouse is on the fritz.  I've been coloring the newest page with the touch pad on my laptop and it's slow going. 

A new page will be ready for this Sunday.  And a new plot point!

Whoa!

Here's this weeks comic.

My friend Brybox came by yesterday and showed me some new scanning and coloring techniques.  I used them on this weeks page.  I did some shading too! Hopefully I'll get better and better with this stuff as I try new things.  If you are an artist and have some thoughts, I'd love to hear 'em.

I chronicled every step of this weeks page.  But I really took too long getting the whole thing done. So I'll post the page now (a day late) and then I'll show the step by step next week, when I have some time.

Excuses excuses ...

I'm having trouble figuring out the wireless scanner at my parents house (I'm dog/house sitting for them while they're out of town.)  Please stand by for page nine.

Okay okay. Page 8.

I didn't want to start by apologizing because this is a free comic and I don't want to have to feel beholden to anyone.  THAT BEING SAID: I'm TOTALLY SORRY I didn't post on Sunday, as I usually do.

I'm also sorry because in my race to get to bed that evening I inadvertently lied about being able to do a double post tonight. 

You see, this comic is something I thought I'd finished in 2008.  It was in black and white, and at the time I intended it to be the first 12 page comic of an ongoing series. However, as I've started to scan, color and post these pages I realized the story was not as complete as I'd earlier thought.  Some of the panels are way too empty.  Some of the wording is illegible.  Characters over all looks don't match up from one panel to the next.  The worst part (to me) was that things were happening in the comic without actually progressing the plot of the story.  I've been somewhat able to move panels around, re-write narrative and dialogue, and generally fake it until this page.

Then I got to this page.

I tried to introduce the character of Don Thompson in this one page.  Ugh.  No good.

I mean, the page itself is fine.  But it only shows some letch being awful in a church.  It doesn't make him a character we care about (in a good way or a bad way.)  It doesn't even bring him into the over all narrative. 

So I started a second page to do all that. A second page that shows the outcome of the actions in the first.  And at least put him in the same story with our hero.

And that's what slowed me down. Trying to do a second page in three days. 
But that's not fair to the readers!  I realize that now.  Too late. And now I'm kind of rambling ...

I drew this whole comic in 2008.  Since I started editing and coloring it I've noticed (and sometimes fixed) a lot of story and character errors that are not meant to be in there.  I'm conflicted on if I should re-draw pieces of the comic or if I should just fix it in the story later.  Or maybe figure out a way to make the errors cannon.  I mean, this is a thing just for fun anyway!
